Abstract

This study was conducted with the aim of designing a digital transformation model with an innovation approach based on sustainability in the food packaging industry. The current study was based on interpretive philosophy and was conducted with an inductive approach. Also, in terms of its purpose, it is an applied-developmental research, and from the point of view of data collection, it is a non-experimental (descriptive) research. A qualitative research design was used to achieve the research objective. The community of participants includes management professors and food industry managers. Sampling was done in a targeted way and theoretical saturation was achieved with 20 people. A semi-structured interview and a questionnaire based on the decision matrix were used to collect data. The coding results of the qualitative part were validated with the Holstein method (0.717) and Cohen's Kappa estimation (0.659). The validity of the questionnaire was confirmed by the formal method and the reliability of the questionnaire was also confirmed by estimating the internal correlation coefficient (0.815). Analysis and coding of the text of the interviews was done using the theme analysis (theme) method in MaxQDA 20 software. In the second part, structural-interpretive modeling method and MicMac software were used to determine the relationships of structures and model design. The research findings showed that level 7 components including business resources, digital transformation leadership and digital/sustainable foresight affect level 6 components including digital/sustainable innovation strategies. The mentioned component on the level 5 components includes the use of new technologies in processes and operations, digital/sustainable key capabilities and the digital experience of effective employees. The level 4 components of the model include a new approach to food packaging industry processes, improving the sustainable functions of food packaging and designing innovative food packaging are influenced by the previous components and the level 3 components include the alignment of the digital innovation strategy. Sustainable with digital/sustainable capability and business sustainability impact in the digital age. The mentioned components affect level 2 including the component of improvement in customer experience (digital/sustainable) and finally all components lead to the results of digital transformation with an innovation approach based on sustainability in the food industry.
